It’s time to pack up the bikinis and put away the beach accessories because Fall is now upon us. Even though the leaves don’t change quite as dramatically and the weather doesn’t drop that much in California, it’s still fun to prep for the new season by decorating, doing the classic traditions and eating the seasonal foods. Here are seven ways to help get you in the Fall spirit!
1. Pick Pumpkins at Stu Miller’s
Just down the road in Aliso Viejo, Stu Miller’s sets up a lot where families can go to pick out the pumpkins they want to carve! This is a great activity to do on the weekend with the whole family because aside from the pumpkins there’s also giant inflatables, mechanical rides and even a petting zoo! Kids and parents alike can enjoy this day of fun.
2. Devour a Slice of Pumpkin Pie
It’s that time of year again! Pumpkin pie is a favorite among many Americans, and since it’s only offered 2-3 months out of the year, you have to take every chance you can get! Although many restaurants offer this treat, some of our favorite places to go are Pie Hole and Polly’s Pies (since pie is what they specialize in).
3. Decorate for Halloween
It’s never too early to start putting up the skeletons and coating everything in orange and black. Head to Party City for easy and cheap decorations that are great for Halloween parties or small decorations. However, if you’re looking for decorations that are a little more sophisticated, some of the boutiques in Dana Point and San Clemente sell seasonal items, as well as shops like Pier 1.
4. Carve Your Pumpkins
If you haven’t already done so after the pumpkin picking, carve those pumpkins! Not only is it a fun activity for the kids, but you can also use the pumpkin guts and pumpkin seeds for great Fall recipes! However, before handing the kids the carving tools, make sure you have taken the necessary precautions and procedures to prevent a mess!
5. Attend Fall Events in the OC
Even though southern California is well-known for the hot Summers and beautiful beaches, it is also a great place to be during the Fall. There are plenty of events and festivals to keep the whole family busy. For instance, Knott’s Scary Farm kicks off Sept. 22 in honor of Halloween. Part of the theme park turns into a haunted house at night and the spooky attraction brings in visitors from all over southern California! Oak Grille also hosts an Autumn Match and Mix Wine Dinner that you can reserve spots for!
6. Eat All The Seasonal Treats
There are plenty of restaurants all over Orange County that add seasonal treats and flavors to their menus during the Fall! Places like Yogurtland offer pumpkin flavored yogurt, so take advantage of this before the time is gone!
